The tour most recently scored a success in Japan’s Tokyo Dome in front of an 110,000 member audience.
From May 12-13, Super Junior’s world tour Super Show 4 took place at the Tokyo Dome, as 110,000 fans filled the venue with sapphire blue lights and roaring cheers.
It especially helped the group prove the great popularity it enjoyed in Japan, which was enough to hold an exclusive concert at the Tokyo Dome, the stage of any Japanese singer’s dreams, despite that Super Junior has never officially debuted nor has gone through any form of promotion in the country. All tickets for the concert even sold out, a feat following up the group’s success last year at the Osaka Kyosera Dome, in which Super Junior held a concert from December 10-11.
400,000 buyers had to battle it out for tickets to the concert, and due to a swarm of requests from local fans to hold more concerts, sales agents even had to open up seats that were initially not made available because they didn’t provide a clear view of the stage. The total audience count added up to 110,000 for the two concerts.
During the two days the concerts took place, the Tokyo Dome area was crowded with fans waiting to see Super Junior’s concert, making it seem as if they were holding a festival of their own outside of the venue with blue towels, t-shirts and various other blue items with Super Junior member names on them.
Super Junior opened the much awaited concert with Superman, a track from its fifth studio album, and hitched the excitement up a notch with its new single Opera released in Japan on May 9. New Japanese versions of Mr. Simple, Super Junior-M’s Too Perfect and Donghae and Eunhyuk’s duet single Oppa Oppa also had the fans singing along.
The members then went on to show off their individual talents, as Ryeowook and Sungmin showcased a beautiful harmony in their own ballad duet, Kyuhyun sang out his own rendition of Kanade, a single by the two member Japanese band Sukima Switch, Eunhyuk performed to Sorry Sorry – Answer, Yesung sang Boohwal’s The More I Love with his attractive vocals and Leeteuk played out his drums in a powerful performance. F(x), the special guest of the show, also drew out cheers from the audience by performing Pinocchio and joining Super Junior for a performance of Oops!!.
The members had their audience join in the fun near the end of the concert by teaching them some moves to go with their performance of You & I, making everyone in the Dome danced to the same choreography, and stepped closer to their fans by using cranes to meet those far from the stage and shake their hands.
The fans, which had enjoyed the three and a half hour long concert up on its feet, bellowed out with the encore song, Sorry Sorry, and teared up during the last performance, Way. The members couldn’t seem to leave the stage, as they lingered behind to visit every corner of the venue to thank everyone in the audience for coming.
Super Junior will next be holding an encore concert in Seoul from May 26-27.
